What is Spray Tanning?

What exactly is spray tanning anyway?  Well that answer is simple! Spray tan is an alternative to UV tanning, which will cause your skin to appear tan, without being exposed to UV rays!

A spray tanning tech applies spray tanning solution to your skin with an airbrush or HVLP spray tanning machine.  This solution contains DHA which is derived from plant sugars. DHA reacts with the outer, dead layer of your skin, causing the tanned appearance! Because the DHA only reacts with the dead skin, your tan will fade as your skin is naturally sloughed off!

Getting the Longest Life Out of Your Sunless Tan

Everyone wants a beautiful long lasting spray tan, but not everyone takes the proper steps to achieve this.  It is possible to have a beautiful spray tan that lasts longer and wears evenly.  You just have to take the time to prepare for and maintain your sunless tan.  Here are a few easy steps!

Before your professional spray tan...

• Exfoliate your body well the night before you receive a spray tan. This is also a good time to shave, you want to give your pores time to close before spray tanning. 
• Do not apply any lotions, deodorant, or perfumes to the skin.  Makeup should also not be worn.  These types of products can create a barrier between your skin and the spray tan solution, causing a splotchy end result. 

After your professional spray tan...

• Allow yourself to dry a few minuets before putting on clothing.  Clothing worn should be dark and loose fitting.  Tight clothes can rub off the spray tan.  
• Do not shower or get wet for atleast 6-8 hours.  Any area of your skin that gets wet before this time will be lighter than other parts. 
• Using soaps in the shower made for sunless tans can help lengthen the life of your tan.  Some soaps may be too harsh and fade your tan. 
• Sunless tan extenders are also great!  Most of them have a slight amount of DHA in them to help keep your skin glowing.  They also moisturize great!
