Can I Work Out After My Sunless Tan?

Tons of people ask if it's okay to head to the gym after their custom spray tan.  It's really not a good idea though!  Your sunless tan needs time to develop, and if you get sweaty during that time it can cause the solution to run.  The result is a streaky, uneven spray tan mess.

So when is it okay to work out after your custom spray tan?  About 9-12 hours after you've been sprayed. It's also not a bad idea to shower off the bronzer before you hit the gym, that way you don't have any slightly embarrassing bronzer run off!

Wedding Spray Tan

It's very common for brides, grooms, and wedding parties to receive a spray tan before the big day.  It really can make your skin flawless and glowing in all those ever so important wedding pictures. Since it is such a big event in your life, it's a good idea to do a trial run before your wedding day!

Get your first spray tan a couple months before your wedding day.  That way you can see how your skin will look with a sunless tan, and it has time to completely come off in case you don't like the results.  The tan you will actually have for your wedding can be done a day or two before.  I recommend getting sprayed with a clear solution that way you don't have to worry about bronzer rubbing off on your dress.  If you decide to use a solution with a bronzer, be sure to shower well after the solution has developed, making sure to remove all the bronzer.

Best Possible Spray Tanning Results

Getting the best possible spray tan really is all about how you prep for it!  There are a few things you need to do at home, before your even walk foot in the door of your favorite sunless tanning salon.

Always, always, always exfoliate!  Exfoliate 3 or 4 hours before your sunless tanning appointment! This will ensure that you have a fresh new canvas of skin for the DHA in the spray tanning solution to take to. The days before your appointment, moisturize liberty!  Spray tanning solution takes best to well moisturized skin.   Be sure the day of your session, you have no moisturizers, deodorants, or make up on your skin.  These types of products can block the sunless solution from absorbing into your skin!

Exfoliation Methods

Good exfoliation is key to getting the most even tan and best wear out of your sunless tanning products. There are many different ways to exfoliate your skin.  All of which will remove dead skin cells and any product build up. Here are a couple methods to try!

Try using an exfoliation wash cloth or glove!  You can use these in the shower with baking soda, body wash, or any exfoliator of your choosing.  Gently rub your body with the cloth or glove to remove dead skin, rinse well afterwards. There are many exfoliating products available, and some are very simple to make yourself!  There are tons of recipes online to make your own.

Dry brushing is another excellent exfoliation method.  This takes a bit of patience, but yields amazing results and helps to increase circulation and re energize your skin. You use a natural bristle brush, brushing your skin in strokes towards your heart. You should always brush your skin towards your heart to avoid rupturing blood vessels.  Once you have fully dry brushed your entire body, hop in the shower and wash per usual. Keep in mind that products that contain oils can create a barrier between your skin and sunless tanning products.  If you choose to use something oily, remember to apply it a couple days before your tanning product.

Spread the Word!

Just opened up your very own spray tanning business?!  Now.. how do you get people in the door?  That can be as simple as word of mouth advertising!  It's the simplest, most effective, and cost efficient way to get people talking about your business!

So you take a couple people you know, the kind of people that other people notice (Students, waitresses, bar tenders.. these sort of people in the public eye work well!), and you give them a fantastic, gorgeous spray tan at no cost to them.  You hand them a few flyers or business cards,  and when everyone is raving to them about how great their skin looks.. they hand them your card!  Another great way to get people into your spray tanning business is to offer free tans, or discounted tans when they refer friends!  One idea that works well is refer 5 friends, and get a free tan!  It really gets people motivated to bring others to you!

Spray Tanning and Body Jewelry

It seems these days that everyone has something pierced!  Weather it be the ears, belly button, or other random body part. Can you still recieve a gorgeous professional spray tan while wearing body jewelry?

The answer is yes!  If you have a new piercing, it is advised you wait for it to heal before receiving a professional spray tan so you don't run any sort of risk for infection.  If the piecing is new, and you really can't wait to get that gorgeous glow, you can cover the piercing with a fun sticker so you have a cute tan line!  For piercings that are fully healed, you can definitely spray tan.  You do not need to remove the jewelry, but keep in mind that if you don't wear it all the time, you could have a tan line from where the jewelry was!

Tanning Attire

You would not believe how many people have no idea what to wear to their first spray tanning session! So many people are embarrassed to ask, so they come unprepared!

My recommendation is to wear whatever you are comfortable in! Many women wear bikini bottoms, or thong underwear.  Men wear briefs or boxers.  It really depends on the tan line (or lack there of) that you are looking for!  I also have disposable undergarments available to my spray tanning clients.  It's important to bring loose fitting dark clothing to wear home!  You don't want anything tight fitting that will rub away your new sunless tan!

Setting Your Professional Spray Tan Gun

There are many different setting options for most spray tanning equipment.  We have figured out the setting that works best with the equipment we offer.  This setting will allow the perfect amount of spray tanning solution to come through your gun, without too much overspray!

Pretend the knob on the back of your professional spray tanning gun is a clock.  Close the knob all the way and make a mark at the 12:00 spot. Now open the gun so that the line is now pointing at the 6:00 spot.  Half of a turn.  The perfect setting for your spray tanning equipment!
