Easy Tips for Spray Tan Gun Cleaning

You really should clean your spray tanning gun every day!  More than once a day if you are doing a high volume of spray tans.  Good thing cleaning your spray tanning equipment is super easy to do!  Keeping your spray gun clean will help your equipment working at it's best and will help it last a lot longer!

All you have to do is gather up your spray tanning equipment and take it someplace near a sink.  You will need your spray gun, spray tanning machine, water, airbrush/hvlp gun cleaner, and a sink.  First you take the solution cup of the spray gun and rinse it out.  Fill it with half water half airbrush/hvlp gun cleaner and reattach it to your spray gun.  Spray this cleaning solution through your spray gun into the sink.  Once you have sprayed the cleaner through, again remove the solution cup and rinse it out.  Fill with clean water and again spray through your gun into the sink.  This will help remove any cleaning solution that may have been inside your gun still.  Spray a bit of air through your gun to help try out the inner workings.  Now you're ready to get spray tanning!

Keep Your HVLP Gun Clean!

It is sooo easy to keep your HVLP spray tanning equipment clean!  Keeping it clean will ensure your HVLP gun is spraying at its best.  If your gun is spitting, or your spray tans are turning out splotchy and uneven, chances are your equipment needs a good cleaning!  Here is how we recommend cleaning your sunless tanning equipment.

First take the solution cup off of your HVLP gun and rinse it out.  Fill that solution cup about half way with your favorite airbrush/HVLP cleaner.  Spray the cleaning solution through your gun into a sink or bathtub.  Again remove the solution cup, rinse it out, and fill with warm water.  Spray this water through your spray tanning gun to make sure all the cleaning solution has been rinsed away.  Once you have done this go ahead and empty the cup again.  Spray air though your HVLP gun to help dry out the inner workings of it.  Now your spray tanning equipment is clean and ready to go!

Can I Work Out After My Sunless Tan?

Get Optimal Color

Using a pH balancing prep spray before spray tanning your clients can really make a difference in the results!  These sprays help to lower the pH level of your skin, which helps to make spray tanning solution the most effective.

Exfoliation Methods

Good exfoliation is key to getting the most even tan and best wear out of your sunless tanning products. There are many different ways to exfoliate your skin.  All of which will remove dead skin cells and any product build up. Here are a couple methods to try!

Try using an exfoliation wash cloth or glove!  You can use these in the shower with baking soda, body wash, or any exfoliator of your choosing.  Gently rub your body with the cloth or glove to remove dead skin, rinse well afterwards. There are many exfoliating products available, and some are very simple to make yourself!  There are tons of recipes online to make your own.

Dry brushing is another excellent exfoliation method.  This takes a bit of patience, but yields amazing results and helps to increase circulation and re energize your skin. You use a natural bristle brush, brushing your skin in strokes towards your heart. You should always brush your skin towards your heart to avoid rupturing blood vessels.  Once you have fully dry brushed your entire body, hop in the shower and wash per usual. Keep in mind that products that contain oils can create a barrier between your skin and sunless tanning products.  If you choose to use something oily, remember to apply it a couple days before your tanning product.

Over Spray Extraction

So, what's all this hype about extraction fans and booths?  Do you really even need one?  Well if you are spraying more than a couple people a day I would definitely say yes.  If you spray in a pop up tent, an extraction floor fan fits nicely in the back of your tent.  If you have a room that you're spray tanning in, extraction booths work well and look super professional!

Extraction fans will greatly increase the air quality of the air you and your clients are breathing.  Extraction fans suck up the spray tanning solution that is left in the air and pull it into a filter.  No more spray tan techs with bronzer in their noses!  Having extraction fans will also help to keep your tent or room a lot cleaner. They will greatly reduce the amount of over sprayed solution on your tent sides or walls!

Just opened up your very own spray tanning business?!  Now.. how do you get people in the door?  That can be as simple as word of mouth advertising!  It's the simplest, most effective, and cost efficient way to get people talking about your business!

What is Spray Tanning?

What exactly is spray tanning anyway?  Well that answer is simple! Spray tan is an alternative to UV tanning, which will cause your skin to appear tan, without being exposed to UV rays!

A spray tanning tech applies spray tanning solution to your skin with an airbrush or HVLP spray tanning machine.  This solution contains DHA which is derived from plant sugars. DHA reacts with the outer, dead layer of your skin, causing the tanned appearance! Because the DHA only reacts with the dead skin, your tan will fade as your skin is naturally sloughed off!

Spray Tanning and Body Jewelry

It seems these days that everyone has something pierced!  Weather it be the ears, belly button, or other random body part. Can you still recieve a gorgeous professional spray tan while wearing body jewelry?

The answer is yes!  If you have a new piercing, it is advised you wait for it to heal before receiving a professional spray tan so you don't run any sort of risk for infection.  If the piecing is new, and you really can't wait to get that gorgeous glow, you can cover the piercing with a fun sticker so you have a cute tan line!  For piercings that are fully healed, you can definitely spray tan.  You do not need to remove the jewelry, but keep in mind that if you don't wear it all the time, you could have a tan line from where the jewelry was!
